Police: Shoplifter pepper-sprays Boscov's guard, gets away

Fled lot in white sedan with possible NY plate

NORTH COVENTRY TWP., Pa. - Police said they are looking to identify a shoplifter who pepper-sprayed his way out being caught by Boscov's security.

The incident happened Saturday at the Boscov's store at the Coventry Mall in North Coventry Township, Chester County.

Surveillance photos show the man with a cell phone to his face as he browsed through various items on the sales floor.

At some point, he was approached by one of the store's loss prevention officers, who ended up being hit with pepper spray, police said.

That allowed the man to get away, police said. He was last seen fleeing the mall lot in a white sedan that may have had a New York license plate, according to police, who did not say what, if anything, he was able to steal.

Anyone who has information about the man's identity is asked to call North Coventry police at 610-323-8360.
