Police trying to track down serial bank robber

Police are on the hunt for a serial bank robber in Berks County.

They say he robbed Metro Bank on Perkiomen Avenue in Exeter Township on July 25 and attempted to rob Susquehanna Bank on North 5th Street Highway in Muhlenberg Township on August 5.

"He always requests his money in the same manner by using a note that is very similar in wording," said Detective Douglas Keener with the Exeter Township Police Department.

But police say he has hit more than just Berks County.

They say without a doubt he is the same man who robbed a bank in Baltimore County, Maryland in early July and they believe there is a method to his madness.

"He has some type of his own system. In Baltimore he was in eight different banks before he robbed one of them. I think he is looking for something in particular or needs to feel that he is comfortable robbing that bank," said Keener.

Police describe him as a black male, about six feet tall, weighing about 225 pounds with a thin mustache. Detectives say he typically wears a flat brim hat and flashy shirts.

Take a close look because they believe he is bound to do it again in Berks County and they have some advice if you see him.

"Do not do anything to try and stop the guy. But, get as much information as you can, especially if you see him get into a vehicle. If you can get a license plate number, that would be very helpful," said Keener.

Police say he visits banks before he robs them so if you see a man matching that description contact police immediately.
