Principal surpasses fundraising goal for life-saving surgery

It appears the beloved principal of a school in Berks County now has enough money to pay for the surgery he needs to help save his life.

Kyle Wetherhold's family and friends set up a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $170,000 for an advanced procedure to emove the remainder of a cancerous brain tumor.

The page surpassed that goal on Tuesday, with more than 1,700 people donating money to Wetherhold, the father of five and principal of Wilson West Middle School.

Wetherhold was recently diagnosed with the cancer, and his first surgery removed 90 percent of the tumor.

Money will continue to be raised for Wetherhold, who will be away from work while he undergoes treatment and recovery.

Hamid Chaudhry, the owner of the Wyomissing Restaurant and Bakery on Penn Avenue, is helping out with a fundraiser of his own. Chaudhry will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from a dinner buffet on June 30 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
