PUC takes action against North Heidelberg Sewer Company

Company has failed to pay electric bills, PUC says

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is considering having another company take over the North Heidelberg Sewer Company.

The PUC announced Friday that it is launching proceedings to determine if the plant should be acquired by another utility.

The sewer company was given an emergency order to pay its overdue electric bills last March, and a payment plan was set up in October, but the PUC said the plant has failed to comply.

The sewer company serves about 270 residents and businesses in northern Berks County.

The PUC has appointed Aqua Pennsylvania Wastewater Company to take control of the sewer company on an interim basis, beginning March 5.
