Reading Area Community College names 6th president

Susan Looney will succeed Anna Weitz on July 1

READING, Pa. - Reading Area Community College is preparing to welcome its sixth president.

RACC announced Thursday that Susan Looney will take the helm as the school's new leader on July 1, following the retirement of Anna Weitz.

Looney joined RACC in 2014 as dean of instruction. She was promoted to her current position of senior vice president of academic affairs and provost in 2015.

"Throughout her tenure, she has consistently demonstrated her passion for education, her commitment to our students and to this community," said Guido Pichini, the chair of RACC's Board of Trustees. "She is a tireless advocate for the community college system, a skilled administrator and, as a community college graduate herself, an ideal role model for our students."

Looney has served as a full-time community college educator for the past 20 years, starting as an accounting faculty member at Mohave Community College in Arizona. She continued her career as a teacher of business administration at Delaware Technical Community College.

"Dr. Looney's tenure at RACC is best characterized as one of focus. She is deeply committed to the success of our students and has focused the staff on excellence, while using outcomes to inform next steps," Weitz said. "She will serve RACC, our students and the community with distinction."

Weitz served 11 years as RACC's president. She will step down on June 30.
