Reading High School student remembered at graduation

READING, Pa. - Before turning their tassels Reading High School seniors took time to remember one of their classmates.

Marlene Estrella was honored at Wednesday's graduation ceremony.

Marlene passed away in November after a battle with leukemia.

Marlene's mother was presented with her daughter's diploma as students cheered on.

The school's principal also spoke to the students about Marlene, hoping they'll be inspired by her courage.

"You had a young lady that was struggling with leukemia, going through chemotherapy. And at no point in time did she ever complain about her situation. She always stayed strong, and she's probably one of the strongest individuals I've ever met, at the age of 17," said principal Eric Turman.

Marlene's mother was also given a cap and gown and a yearbook.
