Subject of massive manhunt on Mount Penn finally caught

UNION TWP., Pa. - An accused felon who was the subject of a massive manhunt in Berks County last week has been captured.

Authorities apprehended Stephen Kulcyski Jr. in the 1300 block of Geigertown Road in Union Township late Friday afternoon, officials said.

He was arraigned before a district justice in Birdsboro and then committed to the Berks County Jail on $900,000 bail.

Kulcyski first eluded capture last Monday, Aug. 4, when he led Schuylkill County officers on a chase in a stolen pickup truck.

Kulcyski was then spotted by an officer two days later near the Arner's restaurant on Howard Boulevard in Mount Penn, but he got away again, prompting an all-out, six-hour search by police officers on the ground and in the air.

Kulcyski had been wanted on multiple felony warrants, including witness intimidation, harassment, receiving stolen property, and theft, according to Berks County Sheriff Eric Weaknecht.

He has also been arrested numerous times for allegedly violation protection from abuse orders.
