Reading mayor urges charter board not to appeal court ruling

READING, Pa. - Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer is hailing a Commonwealth Court ruling in his favor.

Spencer held a news conference at City Hall on Monday, urging the charter board not to appeal this latest ruling.

The board had said Spencer violated the city's home rule charter by adding positions to his staff when he took office.

Two courts have now ruled in Spencer's favor. The matter has been in the courts for nearly two-and-a-half years.

Calls seeking reaction from the charter board have not been returned.
