Reading police officer waives hearing on theft charges

Jodi Royer accused of stealing thousands of dollars in money evidence

READING, Pa. - A Reading police officer accused of stealing thousands of dollars in money evidence is heading to trial.

Jodi Royer waived his preliminary hearing before a district judge in Reading.

Royer, a nearly 24-year veteran of the force, took money to support a gambling habit, officials said.

When authorities announced the charges against Royer last month, they said more than $14,000 was still unaccounted for.

Royer has been suspended from his job.
