READING, Pa. - Big changes are coming to cafeterias all across the Reading School District.
Officials are preparing to serve up free breakfast and lunch to thousands of students.
The announcement came Wednesday through the Reading School District's website, along with e-mails that went out to parents.
Free breakfast will be offered to middle, intermediate and high school students, and free lunches will be offered to all students.
All students will be eligible for the program, regardless of their family's income level.
Some taxpayers expressed concerns over how the district would fund the program.
District officials confirmed that the free meals would not be paid for through local property taxes, but grants.
Administrators spent about a month preparing grant applications, officials said.
The free student meals are scheduled to run throughout the entire 2014-2015 school year.
School nurses are preparing to work with kids who have special dietary needs, officials said.
