Red Cross, UGI kits to help seniors prepare for disaster emergencies

Kits to help seniors prepare for disaster emergencies

READING, Pa. - The Red Cross is helping seniors in Berks County prepare for emergencies.

Seniors at the Berks Encore Center in Reading learned Wednesday morning that being prepared means: have a kit, make a plan and stay informed.

Red Cross officials said they realized seniors needed help in the wake of all the severe storms and power outages in Berks County in recent years.

"If there's some sort of disaster emergency where they need to shelter in place, or to evacuate, they will now have a plan and a kit which we're able to give to them today," said Gail Toscano, American Red Cross.

Reading-based natural gas company UGI helped assemble the kits.
