Rendering shows look of new Wawa in Wyomissing

Store to be built at Penn Avenue and Park Road

WYOMISSING, Pa. - Wyomissing will soon welcome another Wawa.

A new rendering shows what the convenience store will look like once it's built on the northeast corner of Penn Avenue and Park Road.

The rendering also shows the corner to be landscaped with a brick plaza that features benches, a clock tower, a flag pole and a sign stating "Borough of Wyomissing." A brick and iron fence extends from the plaza along both streets.

Wawa said it hopes to open the 5,051-square-foot store -- its second in the borough and ninth in Berks County -- by the fall of 2018.

The Delaware County-based company also has stores in Reading and in Amity, Exeter, Muhlenberg, Spring (2), and Tilden townships. The chain is also planning to build its second Reading store on Lancaster Avenue.

The parcel in Wyomissing has long served as a parking lot for the VF Outlet Center complex, with McDonald's operating a restaurant on the opposite side of the lot at Eighth and Hill avenues.

The site is being redeveloped as part of the center's recent sale to Philadelphia-based Equus Development Corporation, which has plans to spend $70 million on converting it into a mixed-use complex of retail, restaurant, and office space.

UGI Energy Services is relocating its headquarters to the site, operating in what is now the center's "Blue Building."

The VF Outlet will be moving its retail and office operations to the other side of the property, into what is now the Designer's Place building.

That building's primary tenant, Reading China and Glass, announced Thursday that it will be closing in July.

The center's other stores have plans to remain open during the redevelopment work.
