Reports: James Franklin expected to accept Penn State offer

Multiple reports on Thursday indicated that Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin is expected to accept an offer from Penn State to become the school's head football coach.

Vanderbilt has since told the Associated Press that Franklin is still with the Commodores.

Penn State's compensation committee is expected to meet Saturday morning to review a new contract, although the identity of that contract has not been released.

A native of Langhorne, Pa., Franklin attended Neshaminy High School and played quarterback for East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a coach for Kutztown University, East Stroudsburg, James Madison, Washington State, Idaho State, Kansas State, the University of Maryland and the Green Bay Packers. Before taking the head coaching job at Vanderbilt, Franklin was the offensive coordinator for Maryland.

The next coach will replace Bill O'Brien, who is now with the Houston Texans.
