Reward increased to $120,000 in Redner murder case

Pa. State Police: Highest reward ever offered for a crime in state

Reward increased in Redner murder case

WYOMISSING, Pa. - Crime Alert Berks County is upping the ante for information in the Gary Redner murder case.

The crimestoppers organization is now offering $120,000 for tips leading to an arrest.

That's up from the $111,000 that was previously on the table.

Officials said the increase was made possible thanks to donations from Security Guards, Inc. and the owner of the Dairy Queen stores in Exeter Township and Kenhorst.

Redner was the vice president of Redner's Warehouse Markets, the grocery store chain that bears his family's name. He was found beaten to death outside his home in Lower Heidelberg Township in 2008.

His son, Gary M. Redner, released a written statement on Thursday about the increased threat.

"Our family is extremely grateful for the community support for my father's case over the past three years. We pray each day that justice is served," said Gary M. Redner.

"Additionally, we thank Crime Alert Berks County for fielding the many thousands of tips, not only from my father's case, but the many across our county. Their functionality relies on individuals like yourselves reporting crimes in your neighborhoods.

"Who better to help police identify suspects than those who witness it firsthand? We ask you not to turn your head and pretend you didn't just hear or see that, but instead report it."

The new reward is the highest ever offered for a crime in Pennsylvania, said state police.

Anyone with information on the case, or any other unsolved crime in Pennsylvania, is urged to call Crime Alert Berks County. The toll-free number is 877-373-9913.
