Road rage incident leaves one man critically shot

ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. - A road rage shooting left one man critically wounded in Ontelaunee Township.

The incident, which began on Route 61, ended at Leesport Avenue and Berkley Park Road, according to Chief Scott Eaken, Northern Berks Regional Police Department,

Occupants of two separate cars, which may have touched at one point, were involved in the incident, police said.

One car had a single, male driver in it while the second car had three men and two women.

The occupants of both vehicles stepped out of their cars and a verbal confrontation occurred during which one man from the group of five sucker-punched the single driver, police said.

The group then started beating up the single driver, said police, noting that it was at that point that the single driver shot one man in the group.

The crowd scattered and the other two men ran off, according to police.

The wounded man was said to be conscious and tended to by a passerby, but he slipped in and out of consciousness prior to being transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Everyone involved in the altercation was apprehended, police said.
