Saints finding inspiration from senior leaders

Saints make inspired march to District championship

READING - Berks Catholic has lost more than few players to injury this season. But those same players are not letting it ruin the Saints' season. In fact, the team is using it as inspiration.

Seniors Nich Waligurski and Carsen Allen are two such seniors that have seen their seasons come to an end before they could take one snap. But the duo has served as "second coaches" for Rick Keeley, something that nearly brought him to tears following Saturday's 42-0 win over Littlestown in the District III title game.

That rubs off in a positive way on the team as well. B.C. says the pair keeps them focused at every practice, film session and game. They will not allow the injury to be an excuse for this team.

Both Waligurski and Allen were expected to be key play-makers for the Saints on both sides of the ball. But their story is one of inspiration and beating adversity.

It also speaks volumes to the depth of Berks Catholic this year, as numerous players have stepped up in big games. Not all of them are from the Saints' vaunted senior class either.

Berks Catholic will play 11-2 Troy on Saturday in the state quarterfinals at 1:00 in Towanda. We'll more coverage of the team all week.
