Schuylkill Valley wrestlers young, ambitious this year

Panthers eye big season on the mat

LEESPORT - The Schuylkill Valley wrestling team won more matches last year than any in Berks County. The Panthers fell in the county finals last season, but that's given them all the motivation to get back there and then some.

Hall-of-Fame coach Duane Maurer knows he has a younger squad this year, but that hasn't stopped him from having full faith that this team can maintain its status as one of the elite programs in the county. It's a hungry group, one that wants to not only win a county and district title, but a state championship as well.

Schuylkill Valley won 18 matches last year, losing to Wilson in the county finals and appearing in the District III tournament.
