Search underway for bank robber in eastern Berks County

AMITY TWP., Pa. - Police are on the hunt for a bank robber in Berks County.

The holdup happened shortly before 2 p.m. Monday at the First Niagara Bank branch on Route 422 in Amity Township.

Initial reports from the scene were that the man showed a note demanding all the money. He then fled on foot. Police told 69 News they don't know how much cash he got away with.

Police described the robber as a clean-shaven white man who stands about six feet tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt, gray windbreaker-type athletic pants, a dark baseball cap, sneakers, black-rimmed glasses, blue mittens and a gray scarf.

He was last seen running behind the Redner's Warehouse Market.

Police in neighboring Montgomery County have also been notified of the holdup.

Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
