Sen. Bob Casey calls for timely extradition of Miguel Torres from Italy

Casey calls for timely extradition of Berks murder suspect

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Bob Casey said he wants to see a 'timely and appropriate" extradition of a Berks County man who, until March, was one of America's most wanted.

Casey sent a letter to the Italian ambassador to the United States, Claudio Bisogniero, on Wednesday, urging the Italian government to work with law enforcement officials in Berks County to bring Miguel Torres back to Reading.

Torres was arrested in Bologna, Italy, in March, more than seven years after police said he shot and killed his estranged wife, Barbara Torres, in a parking lot in downtown Reading.

"I'm encouraging the Italian government to take appropriate steps that will result in the timely extradition of this suspect," Casey said. "The suspect in this case is charged with a very serious crime. It's critical that the Italian government work with our law enforcement officials to move this process forward."

Last week, Berks County District Attorney John Adams told 69 News that Torres' return to Reading was still a long way off.
