Senior students hear from 69 News' conventions crew

READING, Pa. - Students enrolled in Alvernia University's Seniors College got an inside look Tuesday at 69 News' coverage of this past summer's political conventions.

WFMZ's Karin Mallett and Matt Roth spoke to a class about their experiences in both Cleveland, site of the Republican National Convention, and Philadelphia, which hosted the Democratic National Convention.

Karin and Matt were among a team of reporters, photographers and producers that 69 News dispatched to both conventions in July.

For the third-straight series of conventions, Karin and Matt were embedded with the parties' Pennsylvania delegations, providing viewers with local insight to the presidential nomination process.

69-WFMZ's on-air and online coverage of the conventions involved about a year of planning and two trips to each host city, one in December and the other April.

"The Presidential Election 2016" is a five-class course that explores the issues of the campaign, with a different topic addressed each week. Other speakers include Tim Blessing, a presidential scholar; Stephen Medvic, a political analyst with Franklin & Marshal College in Lancaster; and Jodi Radosh, an associate professor of English and communications at Alvernia University.

The final class will be held after the November 8 election.
