Serious accident on Route 222 in Maidencreek Township

Serious crash closes Route 222; 2 people rushed to hospital

MAIDENCREEK TWP., Pa. - An accident injured two people and closed a stretch of Route 222 in Berks County for about 90 minutes Monday.

The accident was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Allentown Pike, which is designated as Route 222, in Maidencreek Township.

Initial reports from the scene were that at least one person was heavily entrapped in a vehicle. Two people ended up being transported by ambulance to the hospital, but officials had no information about the extent of their injuries.

A medical helicopter was initially called the scene, but it was later canceled, emergency dispatchers said.

Route 222 remained closed to traffic in both directions between Evansville and Pleasant Hill roads until about 5 p.m., according to emergency dispatchers.
