Shillington police report rash of car break-ins

Police also said a homeowner encountered a burglar

SHILLINGTON, Pa. - Authorities in Berks County report that thieves broke into about a dozen vehicles overnight.

Shillington police Chief Andrew Hivner said the break-ins occurred in the northeast section of the borough late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. The thieves took a variety of items such as loose change, electronics and sunglasses.

Hivner said most of the vehicles were unlocked and that the break-ins happened between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. He's urging residents to call police immediately, if they see anything suspicious.

Hivner also reported an early-morning burglary in the 400 block of Sherwood Street.

The homeowner was asleep when he awoke about 5 a.m. and confronted the young intruder. The burglar was possibly male, according to the homeowner.

The burglar ran out of the home, and the owner discovered a laptop was missing. Hivner said a neighbor saw what looked like two males running from the area.
