The shovels were out as people living in Amity Twp., Berks Co., tried to get a head start on shoveling their driveways and sidewalks.
"I figured if I get the first four inches off, which is easy with a shovel, if we have another two or three, that will be OK then," said Alan Duly, in Amity Township.
For many people, getting a head start was crucial because the snow was so wet.
"It is wet. Yes. I do not know if it just started but underneath it is pretty wet," said Tom Swett.
But the heavy wet snow was welcomed by others.
"I am building a snowman," said Julia Mehl.
"It is good packing snow. That is what made the roads slippery. But it is for snowman building," said Matthew Mehl.
Those slippery roads kept Mehl home from work, but he said he didn't mind a snow day.
"It is a blessing to work, but it is also a wonderful blessing to have a day like today where you are forced to stop everything you normally do and just enjoy the family," said Mehl.
Since school was canceled in the area, other families had snowball fights or took to the hills for sledding.
