UPPER TULPEHOCKEN TWP., Pa. - Authorities have identified the two people who died in a crash in northern Berks County late Tuesday afternoon.

Sean M. Orner, 18, of Bethel Township, and Shanon L. Althouse, 18, of Womelsdorf, died at the scene of the crash in Upper Tulpehocken Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

A 17-year-old boy from Womelsdorf suffered moderate injuries in the wreck, according to police, who did not release his name.

The 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by the 17-year-old, was headed south on Bricker Road, toward Oakhill and Henne roads, around 4:30 p.m., when the driver lost control of the car and drove off the east side of the road, police said. The car then struck a tree and split in half.

The victims were students at Tulpehocken Jr./Sr. High School, which announced on its Facebook page that counselors will be on staff through 2 p.m. Wednesday.
