Strong storm topples large trees in Berks

WYOMISSING, Pa. - A line of severe weather moved through Berks County on Monday, toppling several large trees.

One of the trees fell in front of a home at Goldfinch Drive and Lester Avenue. Neighbors said no one was home when the tree fell.

As far as power outages, Met-Ed reported 2,349 of its customers were without electricity as of 6:30 p.m., with most of those affected being in Greenwich, Longswamp, and Robeson townships. The total number is down from nearly 3,800 after the storm passed through the county.

PPL reported 85 of its Berks customers without electricity.

The Spring Street subway in Reading was also reported to be flooded by heavy rain, as is common during a strong storm.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries as a result of the storm.
