Suspect ID'd in chase through Lehigh, Berks counties

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - Police have identified the man they said was behind the wheel of a car that led them on a high-speed chase through parts of Lehigh and Berks counties.

Desmond Cole, 21, of Easton, is being sought on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and misdemeanor charges that include accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief, police said Friday.

Officers with the Upper Macungie Police Department in Lehigh County attempted to stop Cole's green BMW for speeding on the evening of May 15, but the vehicle kept going, traveling south on Route 222 into Kutztown, Berks County, where it struck an occupied vehicle, police said.

Cole's car then continued south on 222 into Muhlenberg Township, where it entered a residential area. Cole jumped out of the still-moving vehicle and ran off, managing to elude a search of the area, police said.

Cole's unoccupied car kept going until it drifted through a yard in the 700 block of Bellevue Avenue and struck a riding lawn mower and the side of a home, police said.

No one was injured throughout the chase.

Anyone with information about Cole's whereabouts is asked to contact Upper Macungie police at 484-661-5911 or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
