SUV loses control, hits school bus in Reading

READING, Pa. - Police say a SUV crashed into a school bus in Reading Thursday morning, sending one person to the hospital.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of North 10th Street.

Police on scene say the bus was stopped at the time of the crash and did not have its red lights on.

The crash happened when the driver of the SUV tried to legally pass the bus, lost control, and clipped the side of the school bus, according to police.

Investigators say they aren't sure what caused the driver to lose control.

Three people were in the SUV at the time of the crash. One of the passengers was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Crews on scene tell 69 News the school bus driver suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

A student with special needs was on the bus at the time of the crash. That student was not hurt.

Police are still looking into what caused the crash and there is no word on whether authorities plan to file charges.
