Thousands lose power in Berks County

Failed cross arm on transmission pole to blame for outage

A failed cross arm on a transmission pole caused thousands of people in Berks County to lose electricity Sunday, according to a Met-Ed spokeswoman.

The power outage began shortly after 11 a.m., with 15,000 customers, mostly in Amity and Exeter townships, initially affected.

As of 12:45 p.m., about 10,000 customers had their power restored. The rest got their electricity back later in the day.
