Tractor trailer rolls on Route 222 ramp in Ontelaunee

Truck hauling load of eggs from Lancaster County

ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. - Emergency crews in Berks County scrambled to the scene of a crash involving an egg-loaded tractor trailer that rolled onto its side on a highway ramp that's notorious for such accidents.

The truck went off the ramp from the Route 222 North bypass to the Allentown Pike in Ontelanuee Township around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Despite warning signs, the driver of the truck took the curve too fast, causing it to roll onto its side in the grass, police said.

The ramp remained open after the crash, but northbound traffic was slow-going getting by the scene.

The truck's driver suffered only minor injuries, but both the trailer and the cab were heavily damaged.

The truck was hauling a full load of eggs from Lancaster County to New Jersey, according to driver. Fortunately, the eggs remained in the truck.
