Transportation planners putting extra money to use in Berks

READING, Pa. - Transportation officials in Berks County have big plans for the extra 16 million dollars in state funds they're receiving.

The extra money is from the transportation funding plan Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed in November, which increased gas taxes and drivers' fees.

Most of the money will go to existing projects, but two projects are taking big steps forward.

Officials approved preliminary engineering for the widening of Route 222 between Maidencreek Township and the Kutztown Bypass.

They also approved preliminary engineering for the reconstruction of the West Shore Bypass.
