Triple shooting rocks Reading community

Triple shooting in Reading

READING, Pa. - Reading police are trying to get to the bottom of a triple shooting that took place on the southside of Reading Friday night.

Just after 7:00 p.m., neighbors reported hearing gun shots coming from the 300 block of S. 17th Street in Reading.

"It sounded like fireworks, and a lady from across the street was yelling at the kids in the park, so I ran up to the park to try to help the kids get out the park," said Luis Perez.

"I heard was a bunch of cops come in. I just came outside and I heard somebody got shot," said Anthony Rodriguez.

Police confirmed that one person did suffer a gunshot wound to the chest.

Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

At the crime scene, bloodied pieces of clothing could be seen left behind in the middle of the street.

At one point during the night police surrounded a home near 17th and Haak St. with their guns drawn.

The drama played out in front of neighbors who said they are fed up, and that this part of the city has turned into a war zone.

"My son got held up not too long ago. I got shot at a few months ago. I mean it's really bad," said Carlos Rodriguez.

"This is crazy because bullets ain't got no name, and it could have hit one of us, you never know, you know what I mean? That's how people get killed," said Levonia Stallings.

One of the shooting victims underwent surgery Friday night, police said.

Detectives said this case continues under investigation.
