Truck hauling human waste goes off road near Boyertown

Driver taken to hospital with head lacerations

COLEBROOKDALE TWP., Pa. - By all accounts, it could have been worse.

A tanker truck hauling human waste leaked approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel after it crashed on Route 73 near Boyertown on Tuesday.

None of the truck's contents spilled and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to officials on the scene.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Philadelphia Avenue (Route 73) in Colebrookdale Township, closing the road for about four hours.

The driver told police he lost control of his truck while suffering a sneezing fit. The truck went off the road and into a ditch.

The driver was taken to Pottstown Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his head, officials said.

Route 73 was closed until shortly before 1 p.m. while crews worked to clean up the spilled fuel and remove the damaged truck.
