Two behind bars after drug bust in Reading

Antonio Reyes-Torres, Jasmin Sanchez face several charges

2 caught in Reading drug bust

READING, Pa. - Dealing drugs is how police said one Reading man was trying to support his family.

Antonio Reyes-Torres, 25, along with his girlfriend, Jasmin Sanchez, 24, were dealing drugs out of their home in the 500 block of South 14th Street, police said.

Investigators said that, during his arrest, Reyes-Torres made several incriminating statements about selling drugs, such as: "I'm a small-time dealer. I need to support my family," according to court documents.

Neighbors had little sympathy.

"That's not right because you could work. You could get a job at McDonald's or Burger King or Dunkin' Donuts. Fast food, there you can get money and pay bills and stuff," said Margie DeJesus, a neighbor.

Police also searched the attic, and said they found cocaine, marijuana and different types of pills and drug paraphernalia.

While residents in the neighborhood said they do not condone the drug dealing that was allegedly going on, they said they are living in a economic crisis that's not getting any better.

"The crisis that's happening in Reading is not only in Reading. It's happening all over the United States. It's just something that occurring all over place. Even the White House don't know what to do," said Pastor Miguel Rivera.

Sanchez and Torres are facing a long list of drug-related charges, including conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia.
