University begins work to renovate 1938 auditorium

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Construction at Kutztown University's Schaeffer Auditorium is under way.

Local leaders broke ground at the auditorium on Thursday.

The auditorium is getting its first renovation since it was built in 1938. Plans include a 14,000 square-foot expansion, a loading dock, and a new interior.

"It's very important for us to maintain the building's good shape. Not only that, I mean the changes in the way that we do things and the needs of the programs have really evolved over the last few years," said Javier Cevallos, president of Kutztown University.

Work is expected to be completed in August 2013.
