Walmart evacuated for possible gas leak

Walmart evacuated

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - Officials evacuated a Walmart store in Berks County for reports of a possible gas leak late Monday.

People had to clear out of the store on the North Fifth Street Highway in Muhlenberg Township around 11 p.m.

Initial reports indicated there was a smell of natural gas in the automotive section of the store.

Fire crews from Temple, Goodwill, and Blandon responded to the scene, but no gas companies were on site.

The same Walmart store was evacuated for a similar reason in June.

A fire police officer on the scene also said the Walmart in Exeter Township was evacuated for a similar report just minutes before the store in Temple on Monday night.

Officials had no information about whether the two evacuations were related.
