Wilson boys eager to defend Stellar crown

SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Wilson boys basketball team posted 26 wins and claimed the Berks County championship over the winter. The prelude to all that success? A first-place finish in the highly competitive Stellar Tournament last summer.

The tournament tips-off Tuesday at Cedar Beach in Allentown with a few girls games. The defending champion Bulldogs have a first round bye and will not play until Friday.

It's a young, inexperienced Wilson team heading into the field this year. But that hasn't affected the squad's confidence that it can make a repeat run.

Why should it? Wilson was a dark horse last year and came out as a team with serious validation.

Wilson's entire starting five is gone, including Travaun Coad, Jaylin Calloway and Sam Smith. The Bulldogs will look to veteran returners Jake Templin and Austin Lubas to carry the torch this season.
