Woman escapes, man surrenders to end standoff in Exeter

EXETER TWP., Pa. - What was described as a "domestic incident" drew an all-out response by police in Berks County early Sunday morning.

Polices said they responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to the 200 block of Oley Line Road in Exeter Township for the report of a verbal altercation that turned physical.

A man inside the home refused to allow a woman to leave, prompting the response of the Berks County Emergency Response Team, police said.

The woman was eventually able to make her way out of the home through a window, police said. She was not injured.

The 38-year-old man surrendered without incident around 10 a.m., police said. Criminal charges are pending a mental health evaluation.

The incident forced the closure of Oley Line Road between Route 562 and Loder Road.
