Woman killed in 4-vehicle crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike

CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. - A woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash that closed a 12-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's eastbound lanes on Wednesday.

The accident happened shortly after 10 a.m. at milepost 298 in Caernarvon Township, Berks County.

State police haven't said how the accident happened, but they did say that one of the four drivers -- a 61-year-old woman whose name has not been released -- died at the scene.

Another driver -- a 71-year-old woman from Annville, Lebanon County -- was injured and taken to the hospital.

The eastbound lanes of the turnpike were closed at the Reading interchange in Lancaster County. Motorists had to follow a nearly 28-mile detour along Routes 222 South, 322 East, 23 East, and 10 North until they got back to the turnpike at the Morgantown interchange in Berks County.
