Woman shares experience with colon cancer

A woman from Berks County is speaking out about a procedure that saved her life.

Karen Rudderow is sharing her experience to help others as Colon Cancer Awareness Month winds down.

Doctors say colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths each year behind lung cancer.

They say a colonoscopy can detect a problem before it becomes colon cancer.

That's exactly what happened to one woman in our area.

"It cured me and made me aware of the guidelines that I need to follow for the rest of my life," said Rudderrow.

The procedure is recommended around age 50 but earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer.
