Wyomissing, Antietam among Berks III contenders

Spartans, Mounts eye Berks III title

BERKS COUNTY - The Wyomissing and Antietam boys basketball teams are considered two of the three top contenders for the Berks III crown.

For the defending champion Spartans, it will not be an easy road.

Wyo has to replace all five starters from a team that won 17 games last season. Head coach Toph Miller and senior Chase Hartman know the beginning of the season will be rough, getting their young and inexperienced players varsity minutes.

But by the time the bulk of league play rolls around, the Spartans think they'll be ready to defend their championship.

Antietam won 13 games last season, and made a run to the District quarterfinals. In just his second season at Antietam, head coach Mike Green thinks he has a group that can have even more success.

Led by Andy Wrobel and Nolan Lee, the Mounts expect to be right in the think of the Berks III race. For them, it's all about finishing games this season, something they struggled to do last year.

Both teams will begin league play on Tuesday night. Wyo visits Oley Valley while Antietam welcomes Tulpehocken. The Trojans are also another strong pick for the division title this year.
