Wyomissing stuns Fleetwood in District III opener

FLEETWOOD - The (4) Fleetwood girls won a soccer championship within Berks County last week.  Their goal now was to win a District III title.  They would need a win Monday night in round one to stay on the path to that championship.

But (13) Wyomissing had other ideas.

The Spartans kept the Tigers off the scoreboard through regulation and two overtime periods. The game came down to penalty kicks.

Fleetwood failed to convert on three straight penalty kicks in rounds 2-4. Wyomissing goalie Stephanie Kotula stepped up in the fifth round and buried her shot in the left corner to complete the first round upset (1-0, 3-1 in penalty kicks).

Wyomissing moves on to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
