BERKS COUNTY, Pa. - Entering Tuesday night's play, the Wyomissing boys sat alone atop the Berks III basketball standings.
But the Brandywine Bullets were right there, nipping at their heels.
The Bullets trailed the Spartans by just one game in the division, having beaten Wyo once this year. The two teams met once again Tuesday with Brandywine looking to move into a first place tie with the Spartans.
Wyomissing built a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back. The Bullets closed to within six in the third quarter, but it would not be enough as the Spartans got the victory 72-57.
Wyo's Joe Cacchione led everyone with 20 points. Gerald Burns dropped 15, Will Kroppe had 12 and Spencer Lloyd recorded 11 for the Spartans.
Michael Hunter was the only Bullet in double-figures with 11 points.
Wyomissing (7-1, 13-6) will look to clinch the division Friday night at Kutztown. Brandywine (5-3, 6-12) will host Antietam.
In Spring Township, the Wilson boys won their eighth straight game with a 56-32 win over Exeter.
The victory avenges an earlier loss to Exeter for the Bulldogs, who jumped into second place behind Reading in Berks I.
Travaun Coad led the way for Wilson with 14 points.
Exeter's Kris Vaden paced everyone with 16 points, half of Exeter's total for the night.
Wilson (6-2, 15-3) visits Governor Mifflin Friday evening. The Eagles (5-3, 17-3) will host Muhlenberg on the same night.
