YMCA closing child care center in Reading

READING, Pa. - The YMCA of Reading and Berks County will be closing one of its three child care centers in the coming weeks.

The Reading High Y Child Care at 210 Locust Street, on the campus of Reading Intermediate High School, will close its doors on June 9, the Y told parents in a letter on Monday.

The Y has leased the building, known as "The Cottage," from the Reading School District for the last two years. Prior to that, it operated the center at the high school.

The Y is offering parents of the 57 children who attend the center incentives to transfer to either of the Y's other centers at the Reading YMCA or at Fleetwood Elementary School.

The Y will hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. on May 31 at the center on Locust Street to answer any questions that parents may have about the closure.

That will be followed by an open house on June 6 at the Reading YMCA center for parents of transferring children.

Once the Y vacates the building, the Reading School District said it will use it for education programs.
