Young athletes compete in Special Olympics event

SPRING TWP., Pa. - Community members turned out Monday to support more than 100 Special Olympics athletes at John Gurski Stadium in Spring Township.

Todd Gensemer has been planning the event at Wilson High School ever since rain forced organizers to cancel the Berks County Special Olympics at Kutztown University a few weeks ago.

"It came together really nicely," Gensemer said. "I had some help, so with help you can accomplish great things.

Athletes competed in the standing broad jump, the softball throw, and 50- and 100-yard dashes.
