Bethlehem Fire Department gets crash course in rope rescue

They may look like wanna-be rock-climbers scaling the side of Bucks County Community College but they were actually members of the Bethlehem Fire Department getting a crash course in rope rescue Wednesday afternoon.

The department already has been training with ropes and rigs.

But the session today allowed firefighters to attempt a practice rescue.

Officials say they need to prepare should the situation for a "high-angle" rescue ever arise.

"If we had someone who was a window-washer that got in trouble we can ascend down on ropes," saod Captain Warren Achey.

The captain says firefighters handle all different kinds of rescues.

And he says this training will allow them to have yet another skill in their stockpile.
