Boy, 14, trick-or-treating, hit by vehicle in Upper Macungie Twp., dies

Child hit by SUV may have been trick-or-treating

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - A boy trick-or-treating Friday evening was struck by an SUV and died, police said.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim identified the victim as Jordan Steinmetz, 14, of Upper Macungie Township.

Around 8:20pm Steinmetz, dressed in a Halloween costume was walking with a friend on Schantz Road near Balsam Street and Cottonwood Road in Upper Macungie Township, Berks-Lehigh Regional Police said.

The boy was hit by an SUV that was traveling west on Schantz Road.  He was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest where he later died.

Grim said Steinmetz died from multiple blunt force injuries.  The manner of death was an accident, according to Grim.

Steinmetz's family said he was an 8th grade student at Springhouse Middle School.

Police are still investigating and a cause of the accident has not yet been released.
