Chain reaction crash injures several in Hackettstown

Six vehicles involved in accident on Rt 46

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - A car failing to stop in time started a chain reaction crash that involved six cars, police said.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Route 46 and Stiger Street in Hackettstown, N.J.

Police said it all started when a car driven by 46-year-old Marion Fisher of Hawthorne, N.J., ran into a car driven by 56-year-old Debra Smythe of Hackettstown.

Smythe was stopped in traffic, police said.

Smyth's car then hit a car driven by 37-year-old Stella Landolfi of Independence Twp., N.J., which hit a car driven by 44-year-old Kristina Hentschel of Belvidere, N.J. and one driven by 62-year-old Irene Cardell of Succasunna, N.J.

Cardell's car then hit a car driven by 18-year-old David Rosado Jr. of Great Meadows,, N.J.

Smythe, an eight-year-old passenger in her car, Fisher, Landolfi and Cardell were all transported to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Traffic on Rt. 46 was reduced to one lane between Stiger and East Prospect streets for about an hour.

The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
