Conrad Weiser coach charged with sexual assault

SOUTH HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. - A Berks County coach is behind bars after being charged with having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student he coached, police said.

Benjamin Stopper, 31, of the 200 block of Longview Drive, South Heidelberg Township was charged with Institutional Sexual Assault and Corruption of Minors Friday night.  Stopper is a high school assistant track and field and football coach at Conrad Weiser High School.

Through his coaching positions he met the teenager and worked with her, police said. 

The sexual relationship began in May 2013, police said.  Since then, Stopper provided the 16-year-old rides to-and-from numerous school activities, police said. 

Stopper had sexual contact with the victim numerous times and at multiple locations in Berks County, police said.
