Coroner: Man, 86, fell down embankment, drowned in drainage ditch

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The man found dead in a grassy patch near Tilghman Street on Tuesday died from falling down the embankment and drowning in water, the Lehigh County coroner said.

William Murray Jr., 86, a resident of Luther Crest Retirement Community in South Whitehall Township, fell down an embankment and into a drainage ditch filled with water, Lehigh County coroner Scott Grim said.

This happened around 9:00am Tuesday at the "Y" intersection, the 4600 block of Broadway, where Broadway meets Tilghman Street in front of the Tilghman Square Shopping Center.

Murray's autopsy was performed Wednesday morning.  Grimm says he died of blunt force trauma and drowning.

The death has been ruled an accident.
