Cresco man ID'd as victim of fiery crash in Paradise

Victim identified in fiery crash

PARADISE TWP., Pa. - The Monroe County coroner has identified the victim of a fiery crash Thursday.

Michael Hayes, 55, of Cresco, died of injuries he suffered in the crash before his car caught fire, according to the coroner, Bob Allen.

The accident happened around 3:10 a.m. in Paradise Township as the car, traveling south on Carlton Road, went through a stop sign at the intersection with Upper Swiftwater Road, according to state police.

The car hit a utility pole head on, then hit a tree and caught fire. Police said there were no visible skid marks or roadway evidence at the scene.

Allen said a forensic autopsy showed Hayes' body was severely burned, but his identity was confirmed because of an old hip injury.
